Can you do this for 2 yards?

Good question when you're in the dreaming phase of a costume design. I was working on a costume with an underwater component and decided to make some technique samples to see if I really wanted to follow that idea.

Some were great-

  • Sashiko, yes.

  • Painting, yes

  • Sewing sinamay onto cotton..... maybe

And some were things I would not want to do for much longer than the sample took!

The oil spill look was muslin dyed with a mix of brown and black RIT. Then I applied a mix of beeswax and coconut oil. Smelled wonderful but kind of a pain.

The fisherman's sweater out of fishing line was really weird to knit. It's gets a vibration that makes your hands tingle and there's a squeaky sound that scared my cat. All in, would not make a whole sweater of fishing line. Also I don't think you would see it well enough on stage to justify the work.
